Dear Oakridge Family,
We made it! As the halls go quiet and we head off for winter break, I’m filled with gratitude for the energy, laughter, and hard work everyone brought to campus this semester.
This time of year is all about joy and hope—finding light in the shortest days and taking a moment to appreciate the people around us. That sense of connection is what makes us special at Oakridge. Whether we are cheering on the sidelines or collaborating in the classroom, we thrive because of the unique perspectives and life stories every one of you brings to our community.
Speaking of unique traditions, we couldn't head into the break without a nod to "The Bacon Story." For those new to our family, this tradition dates back to our early years and our legendary founding Head, Mr. Broadus. Every year, we’re reminded of the days when things were a bit more "lean," and a simple gift of bacon became a symbol of looking out for one another and celebrating our shared journey. It’s a wonderful reminder that no matter how much we grow, we stay rooted in the idea of taking care of our own.
So, as you head into the holidays, I hope your days are filled with joy in the small moments, hope for all the adventures the new year will bring, and rest that leaves you feeling refreshed and ready to go.
Thank you for being the heart of Oakridge. Have a wonderful, safe, and very Happy Holiday!
See you in the New Year,
Matt Burgy
Head of School
